The Future of Fitness in NYC and Boston

I love exploring different workouts and trying out what’s new in fitness. The NYC and Boston fitness scene has exploded with workouts focused around personalized data, cutting edge equipment, and mindfulness. The future of fitness is here and workouts for the body and mind are efficient, effective, and accessible like never before.

These are my favorite.

COREPOWER YOGA [NYC, Boston, and others]

Western/US exercise has recently tasted yoga and it can’t get enough. Yoga is the fastest growing workout of all time. The benefits of a regular yoga practice is that it enabling lifelong mobility and self care towards your body. And it is for #everyBODY. Yoga ranges from the slow and restorative to the strong and sweaty.

Corepower Yoga is yoga for the modern yogi. Their unique fusion of yoga + weights is the ideal workout for getting the benefits of both yoga and weight lifting. I flow almost daily at CPY. I don’t have to chose between a yoga practice or the high intensity workout I crave, you get both! I went through their YogaSculpt Teacher Training earlier this year.

While instructors do incorporate traditional yogic elements and flair, YogaSculpt is primarily a fitness experience. I like that they have five class types so if you go often, there is always a class to fit your mood.

I swear by how Corepower Yoga healed my body. I experienced improvement in my posture and mind-body connection. It is empowering to strengthen the muscles that support your body, not just the showy ones. The difference is transformative.

I had sought out yoga as the alternative to needing chiropractic adjustment. Yoga increases the flexibility of my spine and body, and is reinforced with proper weightlifting to build the muscles that support your spine and make your body stronger. I haven’t been back on the chiro bench since I began a regular CPY practice 8 months ago.

YogaSculpt and their other hot yoga classes are are gateway drug of yoga. Powerful, sweaty, with amazing instructors. My favorites in NYC are @teresaannee and @haleicopter in Boston are @juliana.jpg, @thecoastalyogi, and @laneyevers

NOVA Studios [NYC]

NOVA is technologically-advanced total body training. In the best possible way.

You wear NOVA’s high tech EMS suits that delivers 40 micro-contractions/second to targeted muscles during your training session. Electro-stim makes the workout 3x as effective and you will be sore for days in muscles you didn’t even know you had! It also means you can blast in a really effective workout without spending the time. Can confirm: I burn 90 min worth of calories in the 30 min training session. Read: intermediate-advanced. Savage.

Their signature class is boxing-conditioning style. You do rounds of HITT and cardio designed to get every muscle firing with outstanding personal training attention. The instructors control your suit with an iPad to send shocks to individually targeted muscle groups.

The feeling from the electro-stim starts out tingling and builds as your trainer brings up the level and you sweat more (more sweat, better electrode connection). What it feels like then is like your muscles are being turned on manually- you have to work against internal resistance and- wow it makes the workout hard. While the electro-stim doesn’t hurt, planking with your whole core ignited feels like a gut punch. I can definitely recommend the Soho location.

Y7 [NYC]

Y7 is a hot, sweaty, and personal yoga practice. There are no mirrors and the room is softly illuminated by flickering electronic candles. You flow powerful vinyasa yoga to OG classic rap and throwback music to #sweatthatshitout.

You flow 3 sequences 3 times through, first with detailed body alignment cues, then breath to movement, and then on your own. For the yogi looking for a deeply personal connection to their practice, this pattern is really rewarding. A whole sequence is difficult to memorize on the spot, forcing you to let go and just flow! This is a really good for building confidence and know-how to freestyle flow at home.

Y7 also offer a very nice assortment of serums and oils for use in the studio. I love being able to let the amazing oils work on my skin on my walk back from a detoxifying flow. Heads up that all the studios are nearly impossible to find.

Y7 gives you the freedom and confidence in your abilities to guide your own practice. I can definitely recommend the Flatiron location.

These are my Top Fitness Studios in New York and Boston. Corepower is the ideal daily yoga-sculpt workout. NOVA Fitness is technology-enhanced athletic conditioning. Y7 Studio is a unique detoxifying yoga-spa experience.

If you liked this article, recommend new studios for me to try! Let me know what you think about Corepower, NOVA, and Y7, or any questions you have!
